BFNations gives you some important tips on how to handle melee weapons in Battlefield™ V.
Melee weapons can be extremely important if you’re trying to avoid drawing attention to yourself when your current weapon isn’t a great choice for close-quarters combat, or when you’ve run out of ammo. Additionally, there are a couple of very nice side benefits for going hand-to-hand with enemies – melee takedowns are fatal (so there’s no chance of revival) and you can collect the enemy’s Dog Tags as a little trophy of the encounter.
Your melee weapon selection spans from small knives all the way up to sizable shovels and clubs. Of course, smaller weapons will do less damage. If you have a more aggressive playstyle, blunt weapons may be a good fit for you. And these weapons can also help you take out lighter Fortifications like barbed wire.
The optimal melee attack is, as you might expect, from behind. Attacking at the right moment will trigger a takedown animation and one-hit kill. If you’re approaching your target from the side, do your best to angle behind them to trigger the same takedown. A frontal approach is the most dangerous and definitely not recommended – unless you really enjoy dodging bullets from point-blank range.
Melee ambushes are a tried and true method of taking down enemies. Luring them into a confined space and waiting until they pass your hiding spot will put you in an ideal position to add to your Dog Tag collection. Want to try something a little more dramatic? Use a smoke grenade on a group of enemies and go in swinging.
