HOW TO DRIFT IN NEED FOR SPEED™ UNBOUND

Scuff up the streets. Find out the best ways to slide across the tarmac and go sideways to get ahead.

F1 2021 Header

Drifting is a key part in making your mark on the street racing scene in Lakeshore. Master the art of drifting to fill up your Burst Nitrous meter faster and slide around corners with style. Whether you’re drifting as far as possible when sliding through Lakeshore’s Drift Zones or building up your boost to set another hot Speedrun lap, practicing your drifting skills will set you up to take over the city.

When it comes to going sideways, the choice is yours in how you initiate your drift. Choose between brake & throttle stab (on by default), brake only, and gas only to find the right fit. Take some time to go through the menu and experiment with these styles to see what feels best for you.

Favoring the braking method will give you a clean and distinct turn-in, reliable but not the fastest. Hitting the throttle is the smoothest way to go sideways and maintain the most speed into the corner but it takes more precision to pull off cleanly. You can also go old-school and hit the handbrake to drift regardless of the option you have selected. This won’t be the fastest way to do it but will guarantee a sharp turn, perfect for when you’ve overshot your entry.

Get familiar:
For drifting novices, check out the tutorial at the beginning of the game to sharpen your skills. Brake to drift is recommended as the easiest control scheme to master for most players. Don’t linger on the brakes for too long though as the longer you brake, the more momentum you lose in the corner.

Word on the street: “Manage your cornering angle carefully, come in too aggressive and you might find yourself doing some unplanned off-roading.”

Go sideways:
Looking for a more challenging way to go sideways in Need for Speed™ Unbound? Tapping the throttle to drift delivers more input control and means you’re sacrificing less speed when sliding through a turn. This delivers a shallow drift entry to blast past your rivals from the first corner to the very last!

Gain the edge:
Use drift to charge up your Burst Nitrous meter and blow away the competition with a rush of pace on the corner exit. Time it right and you’ll be the fastest on the streets, hit it too early and you’ll wish you never tried it.

Word on the street: “Hitting your Burst Nitrous as you enter a drift will blast through the corner to gain a crucial edge on your competition!”

Dial up the drift:
OG drifters burn every last bit of rubber off their tyres. Hit up the garage, get some new upgrades, and dial up the drifting potential of your ride.

Now go sideways and get noticed!
